Last night, at the final of 3 sold-out shows for one of the most hyped bands in the world, Ben Goldwasser was wearing Cassius Eyewear on stage! Watching from the rafters (courtesy of some comp. tickets), it was difficult to get a decent shot with my SD1000, but suffice to say, they were Rouge, they were Corbu and they were Cassius Eyewear! I know this for a fact because I'd hooked up the boys earlier in the week when they arrived Sunday mornin, and + my friend(s) have more reliable 20/20 vision. We did attempt to make our way down to the pit and stayed a little to get a better shot, but waaay too crowded, way too hot and way to mosh like 18-year olds... no thanks–they all seemed hell bent on guarding their close proximity to the band. Why the f$%&?
On stage, MGMT looked like your typical indie kids, with shaggy mops and skinny jeans–as they made their way through some new tracks, along with 3 all conquering hit singles; 'Kids', 'Electric Feel' and 'Time To Pretend', + bongo, pan flutes and recorders. They seemed content and contained as they rocked the late teen to early 20's-something crowd in a very low-key fashion. They never physically broke loose but the fans went psychedelic like it was Mardi Gras or New Year's Eve (guys in hand-painted day-glo singlets, hoisting each other on shoulders, waving Glowsticks around) and even more than a few trumpets were lit.
For anyone that paid scalper fees, apparently going for anywhere around NZ$210.00+, (suckers!) they would have been disappointed with the lack of costumes and light shows from their European festival performances. Nevertheless it was a good time to bad had by all, especially the stoners!
This morning at around 10am MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden, Ben Goldwasser and their 3 piece band jetted off to Australia to continue playing their world tour.
Just in from Reuters also, MGMT are slated to appear in Jay-Z's much hyped upcoming album,The Blueprint 3, alongside Drake, Kid Cudi, Mr. Hudson, and Rihanna; plus collaborations with producers Kanye West, No I.D. and Timbaland. The Blueprint 3 will be released on September 11 via Roc Nation/ Atlantic.
